Evaluation Day

Overview

Player evaluations are scheduled for January 27th, 2024, at Redmond Ridge Park.  These are evaluations for Upper Division Baseball (AAA, Coast, and Majors).

  • When: Saturday, Jan 27th from 9am- 5:30pm.  Time slots per were emailed out to the email that was used for registration.
  • Who: Mandatory for players Little League ages 8-12 (and 7-year-olds looking to play AAA).
  • Where: Jackson Roos Memorial Field 
    • Located in Redmond Ridge Park. 22915 NE Alder Crest Dr. Redmond Was 98053

What to expect 

  • Evaluations will take approximately one hour for each group, but duration from start to finish will vary. We will be evaluating in 5 skills:  hitting, running, grounders, pop flies, pitching.
  • Players should bring their gloves, bats, cleats or turf shoes, protective cup, and helmets/bats will be provided if you don’t have your own. 
  • Players should be dressed appropriately for baseball and all boys must wear a cup. 
  • Players do not need to wear baseball pants, cleats etc. We will be evaluating on turf. If you chose to wear cleats. Metal cleats are not allowed.
  • There will be an opportunity for players to warm up before being evaluated.

What to Expect at the Evaluations:

  • Rain or Shine adjustments will be made based on weather.
  • Players check in at the RNLL tent/ table and will be given a bib number to pin it to themselves on the front.
  • Take personal gear with them to each station.
  • Parents will be asked to exit after check-in and wait for player to complete evaluation.
  • Proceed to the warmup station.
  • Rotate through each station (warm-up arms, hitting, running, fielding, pitching). Catchers will not be evaluated.
  • Player exits with gear and return their bib number to the check-in table and receive a RNLL cookie.
  • Target time for each group~1 hour

For the Parents:

  • Please assist player with check-in (if needed) then wait outside under the pergola or in your car until player is done with their evaluation.
  • The players may be under a great deal of self-imposed pressure to perform – Please do not add to it!  This is not a try-out to make a team; we evaluate players to build teams of parity.
  • Please do not coach or interfere with evaluations in any way.
  • Please help us maintain a safe environment by waiting outside of the facility, including any other children not participating in the evaluations.

What if my child is unavailable / sick / injured/ wants to switch to softball/ cannot attend their assigned evaluation session/ or have additional questions?

Reminders for Parents

If you have not already provided the following documentation during the online registration process, please see below.

  • Document Check: You must provide copies of 3 pieces of documentation to verify your current address is within RNLL boundary. Valid documents must be dated after 2/1/2021. Types of valid documents include a driver’s license, voter’s registration card, utility bill, insurance document, internet/cable bill, vehicle record - only 1 document per category is acceptable.
  • Birth Certificates: Please bring to verify age.
  • School Enrollment Waiver: If you live outside of the RNLL boundary but your child attends a school that is within please complete the following waiver form. 
  • Payment: If you have not made your players payment for the season during online registration, please bring a check made out to RNLL. All payments must be made before a player will be placed on a team.
  • Remind your player to: Arrive properly equipped (cups required for all boys) and dress appropriately for baseball. 

Volunteer Opportunities

We need 20+ parents, friends and siblings to help ensure a smooth day for the players.  These hours qualify for community service commitments for your High School/Middle School children.  All volunteers are required to complete the online background check.

Evaluation process

Player evaluation day will be held at the Jackson Roos Memorial Field at Redmond Ridge, and on the field if weather allows. 

Players will cycle through five stations:

  • Hitting
  • Running 
  • Grounders
  • Pop Flies
  • Pitching
